Discount Outdoor Carpet-What are the Options?

Discount Carpet used outdoors is an extremely popular flooring product, but rarely seems to get the glamour and buzz of the other floor types. Outdoor carpet is sort of like the blue collar product of the flooring world. It's out in the sun all day and hard working but gets very little love from those of us in the industry. If you're looking to buy Outdoor Carpet, you might be surprised at the different styles available and popular uses of this type of carpet. There are three primary types of Outdoor Carpet.

• Grass (Synthetic)- Grass is not just used for golfing activities, but also has other ways it can be used. Often people use a grass product around decks, pools, boat docks, and even use when camping for laying outside the tent or RV to keep the area cleaner for entering the sleeping area or setting up camp. Grass can also be used in retail product displays. Popular colors are Green, Blue and Black.

• Loop - Outdoor Loop Carpet is usually thought of as the most attractive of the Outdoor Carpet products. It has a look and feel to commercial carpet with tight, tiny ribbed loops. It creates a wonderful look for covered porches, decks and as the other types of Outdoor Carpet and rugs, is very popular with campers. Popular colors are Brown, Charcoal, Black, Light Grey, and Dark Red.

• Cut Pile – Cut pile Outdoor Carpets have smooth, flat textures or can even seem soft and fuzzy. This type of Outdoor Carpet is comfortable on bare feet and does great on porches, decks and is the most used for boat carpet. The non loop style does well because of keeping fish hooks from hanging on the carpet.

There are two primary types of backing used for Outdoor Carpet.

• Unitary backing - This backing is sprayed on. The main material used is a special latex that works well under the elements and it is fine for this to get wet. Unitary is widely used on Loop and Cut pile products.

• Marine backing – An very flexible backing that feels like thin rubber. This type of backing works great for areas that would stay constantly wet or areas that you would need a very pliable product for installation, like boats or stairs. This backing is used primarily on Grass products.

BecklersCarpet.com has tons of in stock deals on Outdoor carpet. Many of these don't make it to our website because the inventory specials turn so quickly. If you are in the market to buy an Outdoor Carpet or rug, be sure to call us at Beckler's Carpet, 1-800-232-5537. We are open on Saturdays from 9am until 4pm, Eastern, for added shopping convenience. Call us or stop by and see us if you need any flooring or floorcovering information.

Discount HandScraped Oak, Prefinished Hardwood Flooring in stock

Most people think of Beckler's Carpet as one of the best places in the country to buy discount carpet. However, we we have been flooring America since 1949 with all types of floorcovering, including hardwood.

A style of hardwood flooring that has gained in popularity is handscraped oak. Oak is the king when it comes to hardwood floors, but it typically has a smooth, even planed finish. The handscraped look gives a more realistic, custom, rustic look to the floor. You can buy authentic handscraped or machine scraped that emulates the real thing. Chances are if you are not an installer or wood specialist you would never know the difference (expect in the price! authentic hand scraped is very expensive).

Handscraped oak flooring, comes in factory, prefinished versions which give you a superior finish compared to unfinished wood flooring. Prefinished handscraped hardwood floors also come in several widths, usually 3-5" wide being standard.

Beckler's Carpet stocks several brands and styles of Handscraped Oak hardwood flooring. Be sure to visitBecklersCarpet.com or call 1-800-232-5537 for more information or a sample of one of our hardwood flooring deals. For the best Dalton, Ga flooring information, stay tuned to FlooringandMore!

The buzz about frieze carpet

So what's all the craze in floorcovering about frieze carpet?

Frieze is a "new" twist (great pun!) on what was previously know as trackless carpet. It is has a look that hides trackmarks, shoeprints and vacuum marks. It is sort of a blend between a trackless and the old shag style of the 1970's.

Frieze carpet's look is created by infusing an somewhat irregular twist in the yarn structure. As compared to shag carpet, the yarn in Frieze is tighter and appears thinner. Frieze flooring also usually has a shorter pile height (overall height of the yarn) than the older shag versions.

You can get cheap frieze carpet in various styles. Solid colors are available as well as "flecked" options. The flecked options tend to hide dirt and tracking better than the solids in my opinion, but it's up to you what you like the look of better in your floorcovering.

Different Frieze styles come offered in all of the major yarn types. Nylon (best overall), Olefin (polypropylene), and Polyester. (I'll cover these different yarns in an upcoming blog with more flooring information).

For more flooring information about Frieze carpet and floorcovering visit BecklersCarpet.com or call 1-800-232-5537 for great options and pricing on Frieze or Shag carpet!

Discount carpet in Dalton Ga

Why is Dalton, GA the place to look for discount carpet? In the early 1900's a nich market took place along Hwy 41 with local citizens selling handcrafted Chenille bedspreads along the roadside and small storefronts. With the advent of better technology in the mid 1900's the production of bedspreads became more industrialized and product could be produced on equipment much faster than older methods. Small companies were built to produce the bedspreads in higher quantities. These same companies started experimenting with other ways to use this method of textiles to manufacture new products, hence the birth of carpet. With the majority of both carpet manufacturer's and carpet and textile equipment oem's located in Dalton, Ga, the little town in North Ga became the discount carpet capitol of the world.

With so much discount carpet flooring produced locally, retail/wholesale flooring stores and outlets began to boom. These stores, since located close to the manufacturing, could get material quicker and cheaper than stores located farther away. With the exponential growth in business due to their locale, the stores could stock more as well as they were selling more than out of town stores. With more annual sales, their buying power increased and therefore they get access to special deals on overruns, seconds, off color goods, promotional flooring, special private labeled floorcovering etc. It's a productive cycle for both the retailer and the manufacturer.

An interesting thing happened in the 1970's. Discount Carpet stores in Dalton, noticed that when consumers purchased carpet, they also wanted to purchase their vinyl/linoleum, hardwood flooring, tile flooring etc from the same outlet. Dalton carpet retailers and wholesalers embraced this and became the consumer mecca for all types of cheap flooring.

Up until the late 80's or so, there were a bazillion (actually hundreds) of carpet manufacturer's. Some had big plants, some were in chicken houses. By the late 1980's early 90's, All of the manufacturing companies had been bought or merged into 3 companies. Those 3 being (in no particular order) Shaw, Mohawk and Beaulieu. All three still have a majority of their manufacturing based in Dalton or close by.

If you need discount carpet, keep Beckler's Carpet in mind. BecklersCarpet.com has been flooring America since 1949. You can call us at 1-800-232-5537 for the best prices on flooring in the country!
